This is seriously one of my absolute favorite book series of all time. And as you can tell, I read ALOT of series. Let’s get to why this book is amazing.
Only a true best friend can protect you from your immortal enemies . . .
Lissa Dragomir is a Moroi princess: a mortal vampire with a rare gift for harnessing the earth’s magic. She must be protected at all times from Strigoi; the fiercest vampires – the ones who never die. The powerful blend of human and vampire blood that flows through Rose Hathaway, Lissa’s best friend, makes her a dhampir. Rose is dedicated to a dangerous life of protecting Lissa from the Strigoi, who are hell-bent on making Lissa one of them.
After two years of freedom, Rose and Lissa are caught and dragged back to St. Vladimir’s Academy, a school for vampire royalty and their guardians-to-be, hidden in the deep forests of Montana. But inside the iron gates, life is even more fraught with danger . . . and the Strigoi are always close by.
Rose and Lissa must navigate their dangerous world, confront the temptations of forbidden love, and never once let their guard down, lest the evil undead make Lissa one of them forever. (Via GoodReads)
Okay so maybe vampire aren’t all that popular anymore. I get it, we have been obsessed with vampires since the start of Twilight. But this is one of those series that will make you like the genre a bit better.
As you can tell, the story focuses on Rose Hathaway. And let me tell you, she is a BOSS. She’s hilarious! There are so many funny moments I don’t even know where to start.
And not only is she hilarious, her willingness to do what it takes to make sure her best friend is happy and safe is something to be admired. And let’s get talking about the serious eye candy in this series. Dimitri: I think he is six feet tall, has longish hair and is Russian. What else can a girl ask for? Seriously he’s my favorite character in this book, other than Rose. And my gosh, the way those two act when around each other… Well you’ll just have to read to find out won’t you ;). And if it wasn’t obvious, I totally and completely ship Dimitri and Rose, A.K.A. Romitri. Christian Ozera, Lissa Dragomir, Mia, Mason, and a few others, yep I’m talking about Jesse and the rest of the Brat Pack, are very involved in this story since it’s mostly about friendship.
The one thing that really threw me off was who the bad guy turned out to be. I so wasn’t expecting it, the first time I read it… but the betrayal is so huge I can’t even get into it.
But my gosh there was so much drama in this book. It’s like being in high school all over again, except without all the royals and power plays and magic. It’s a vampire story, it’s to be expected that they are different from other vamp stories out there.
Richelle has a really great writing style and it’s easy to follow. All in all, I enjoyed the wit and the plot twists, there’s always more than one. And I look forward to seeing the characters grow and mature and the rest of their adventures. I really hope you consider reading this series because it is absolutely my favorite.
