This has become one of my favorite books, and series. I read a lot so for me to classify this as a favorite, it’s definitely one of the better ones I’ve read. Bear with me though, because it has been a while since I last read thing. Okay so let’s get started.

Review
Historical fiction is a little difficult to work with, but it’s oh-so-easy to create love stories thanks to a thing called chivalry.
Since this novel isn’t told in first-person, it was easier to follow Ellie, Will, Jane, and several other characters. Between a feuding family, a crazy father, and other wacky characters, it’s not hard to imagine the world Edwards has created.
So basically, Will, whom is 16-years-old, has to marry a girl from a wealthy family, dowery and everything, because his father died leaving the family in financial ruin, thanks to none other than Ellie’s father because he is obsessed with Alchemy. In comes Jane, and her insane family. Jane is a type of girl who wants to marry an older man for wealth, inherit his fortune and then marry for love. Doesn’t really work out for her very well, seeing as how she becomes engaged to a young earl.
Ellie, on the other hand, doesn’t really think about marriage, she just wants her father to stop with his obsession. Especially after all the trouble it caused with the Lacey’s way-back-when. Her friendship with Jane complicates things, as well as her father’s actions.
It’s one of those stories where the line between love and hate is very, very thin. Especially when you throw in a player, a crazy father, and the need for money. Actually now that I’m remembering, there was so much tragedy in Ellie’s life. Let’s just say, in terms of insanity, her father was the sane one compared to his brother.
There are so many love triangles and twists and turns all elegantly entwined that this story is seriously why I believe there is such a thing as True Love. Not only is there romance and drama going on, there were some funny moments that just helps make this such a great novel. It was actually such an amazing story that I convinced a classmate of mine to read it and she loved it.
It’s such a simply read and while it’s not exactly Old English, the wording is slightly odd. I really truly recommend this novel and series, especially for those of you that are hopeless romantics.
